Europa-Park transforms hotel access with a digital solution
The Europa-Park Hotel Resort has taken an important step in digitalising its security technology. With a comprehensive access solution from Salto, fully integrated into the existing Europa-Park Hotels app from Hotelsuite, the theme park operator is modernising the entire guest journey. The new solution covers the complete stay from booking to check-out and aims to create more convenience, efficiency and flexibility for guests and staff.
The central goal of the project was to enable all guest interactions digitally, intuitively and without media discontinuity. At the same time, background processes were to be automated, administration made more efficient and maintenance effort reduced.
A central app brings all services together
The Hotels app from Hotelsuite acts as the hub of the digital solution. It not only enables digital access to the hotel rooms but also integrates booking functions, ticketing, table reservations, the Hotel Friends loyalty programme and wellness services. Via corresponding interfaces, the application additionally incorporates admission tickets for Europa-Park and the Rulantica water world.
According to the company, this comprehensive integration leads to noticeable time savings and a reduced workload at reception. The access solution covers not only doors in guest areas and back-of-house areas but also includes lifts – for example the lift to the exclusive suites in the lighthouse of the Bell Rock hotel.
Mobile keys replace key cards
With the new solution, guests can use their smartphones as digital keys. This eliminates problems with defective key cards and offers users more flexibility. According to Salto, acceptance among guests is already very high – more than half actively use the mobile keys.
Complex structural and design requirements
The project placed high demands on technical implementation. The hardware of the access solution had to blend harmoniously into the themed hotels of Europa-Park. In addition, extensive fire protection requirements had to be taken into account, affecting a large number of different door types and eight different manufacturers.
Successful implementation required close coordination between all project participants: the Europa-Park Hotel Resort, the Salto specialist partner KOCH Freiburg GmbH and Open New Media GmbH as the provider of the app solution. This coordination was decisive in ensuring that technical components, app integration and user experience work together smoothly.
Significance for the security industry
The project is a prime example of how access control is developing in the hospitality sector. Integrating different systems via a central platform is becoming the standard for offering guests a seamless experience. At the same time, the example demonstrates how modern access solutions can contribute to process optimisation and cost reduction.

Eliminating defective key cards reduces technical problems and the associated service interruptions. This leads to higher guest satisfaction and less maintenance effort for the technical staff.
Future prospects for digital access solutions
The Europa-Park project illustrates the trend towards holistic, app-based solutions in access control. Integrating different services via a central platform is increasingly becoming a competitive differentiator.
For the security industry, the example shows that successful projects require close cooperation between technology providers, system integrators and end customers. Taking specific requirements into account – from fire protection regulations to design specifications – is becoming ever more important.
Salto, which celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2025 and, according to its own figures, provides secure access for 40 million people, also demonstrates the maturity of the market for electronic access systems. The technology has developed to the point where even complex large-scale projects with diverse requirements can be successfully realised.
