What Happened?
With the SicherheitsExpo Alpe Adria, Carinthia is getting its own dedicated trade fair for modern security technology for the first time. The premiere will take place on October 14 and 15, 2026, at the Klagenfurt Exhibition Center. More than 40 exhibitors will present innovative solutions in the fields of access control, fire protection, IT security, video surveillance, and perimeter protection. The event brings together experts, companies, and public institutions from Austria and the entire Alpe-Adria region.
The Details
The SicherheitsExpo Alpe Adria aims to serve as a central platform for information exchange on topics of growing importance to businesses and public institutions in Carinthia: protection of critical infrastructure, cybercrime, burglary prevention, and crisis preparedness. The trade fair brings together current solutions and developments in access control, fire protection, IT security, perimeter protection, and video surveillance.
The new fair's professional partners are VSÖ – the Austrian Association of Security Companies – and KFV, the Austrian Road Safety Board. VSÖ is helping shape the content of the expert forum, ensuring that Austrian industry requirements are taken into account. KFV contributes additional current topics and professional input to the program.
On both days of the fair, visitors can look forward to an extensive lecture program already included in the admission ticket. Speakers from the security industry, government authorities, and research institutions will address current challenges and present solutions for businesses, public institutions, and critical infrastructure operators.
The fair will be opened on October 14 by Carinthian State Councillor Dr. Beate Prettner. The lecture program will kick off with a keynote by General Mag. Andreas Holzer MA, Director of the Federal Criminal Police Office, on the topic "The New Vulnerability – Security in an Age of Permanent Crises." This will be followed by a panel discussion titled "Polycrisis as the New Normal – Are Our Systems Still Manageable?" Further program items will cover topics including AI in security technology, legal regulations surrounding the protection of critical infrastructure, early wildfire detection using drones, and the motives and methods behind burglary offenses.
Context
The SicherheitsExpo Alpe Adria is based on a trade fair concept that has been successfully established in Munich for 23 years and was already expanded to Berlin in 2025. With its launch in Klagenfurt in 2026, the security technology industry now gains an additional platform for trade visitors from Austria, Slovenia, and northeastern Italy. Klagenfurt's geographic location makes the fair a hub for the entire Alpe-Adria region, filling a regional gap in the industry's event calendar.
The fair's thematic focus reflects current developments: the protection of critical infrastructure, the growing significance of cybercrime, and crisis preparedness are topics that no longer concern only large corporations but also affect municipal institutions and medium-sized businesses in the region. The involvement of VSÖ and KFV as professional partners underscores the fair's commitment to delivering practice-oriented, industry-relevant content.
Practical Tips
- Trade visitors from the security technology sector should secure their admission tickets early, as participation in the lecture program is already included, offering added value at no extra cost.
- Companies and public institutions from Carinthia and the Alpe-Adria region dealing with critical infrastructure protection or crisis preparedness will benefit from the expert talks and the panel discussion on the topic of polycrisis.
- Those interested in current developments such as AI in security technology or wildfire early detection using drones should review the lecture program in advance and plan their schedule accordingly.
- Attending the opening keynote and the subsequent panel discussion offers a good opportunity to gain first-hand insights into current security policy assessments.
Outlook
With its premiere in Klagenfurt, the SicherheitsExpo Alpe Adria joins a growing series of events. Already scheduled are SicherheitsExpo Munich on June 30 and July 1, 2027, as well as SicherheitsExpo Berlin on September 22 and 23, 2027. This gives the industry three established locations within the series, each covering different regional focal points.
Whether the SicherheitsExpo Alpe Adria can establish itself as a fixture in the industry's event calendar will depend on the response to its premiere in October 2026. However, given the increasing relevance of topics such as cybersecurity, burglary prevention, and critical infrastructure protection, there is likely to be demand for a regional platform serving the Alpe-Adria area.
